Nine French doctors have rounded on President Emmanuel Macron and accused him of “endangering the health of the French people” with his recent positive comments about wine and failure to address the belief that wine is less dangerous than other alcoholic drinks.

I live in the U.S. where there are mass shootings in schools and the government saves its  outage for climate scientists. In terms of “health risks” – I’ll trade you our GOP-led government, if you give us the Châteauneuf du Pape.

French Ranks No. 1 For Sustainable Eats

This new study puts the country at No. 1.

We’ve long admired the French for their food philosophy, breezy approach to beauty, and genius self-care routines. And according to a new report, we should envy their commitment to sustainability, too.

France ranked No. 1 overall on this year’s Food Sustainability Index(FSI), developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit with the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition Foundation. The FSI analyzed 34 of the world’s most developed nations to see how they stacked up on food waste, sustainable agriculture, and nutrition.

The French Paradox – a certain je ne sais quoi

In 1992, French scientists Serge Renaud and Michel de Lorgeril concluded that despite a diet rich in saturated fat and other harmful lifestyle habits — especially noting a very high rate of heavy cigarette smoking — French people have a low incidence of cardiovascular issues.They termed this phenomenon the “French Paradox” in which they hypothesized that the resveratrol in red wine was responsible for this protective ability. Not that I’m promoting a life of heavy smoking and excessive drinking but there seems to be a link between taking foods that contain this bio-active ingredient and protection from cardiovascular diseases and this requires some further thought and investigation.
