Francis Cabrel signs “Un gramme de terre”, an unpublished song for 10 voices

Le chanteur dévoile, ce jeudi 18 septembre, un tout nouveau morceau mélangeant différentes langues régionales dans le cadre d’un documentaire qui leur est consacré.

The singer is releasing a brand new track this Thursday, September 18, mixing different regional languages as part of a documentary dedicated to them.

Invested in the defense of regional languages, as evidenced by the multilingual show he initiated in 2022 in his town of Astaffort (Lot-et-Garonne), Francis Cabrel appears in the credits of the documentary “Une langue en plus” soon to be broadcast on France TV.

An original creation and a documentary that tells the story

For the occasion, the author of “La corrida” wrote a new song entitled “Un gramme de terre”, which has the particularity of bringing together, around Francis Cabrel, 9 artists singing in their regional language. So many voices that resonate Basque, Breton, Occitan, Catalan, Creole, Corsican, Alsatian through the artists: Pantxix Bidart, Bleunwenn, Agathe Catel, Edwàr, Pauline Junquet, Liza l’Occitane, Valérie Louri, Primaël Montgauzí, Elisa Tramoni, the majority of whom come from the Rencontres d’Astaffort launched in 1994 by Francis Cabrel.

“I found that the idea of this little seed that manages despite the difficulties of producing new ones so that the story continues, is a beautiful image to talk about these languages that we do not want to recognize, but which refuse to disappear thanks to so many beautiful initiatives” , comments Francis Cabrel about this new song.

A musical creation whose creation with 10 voices will be recounted in the documentary “Un gramme de Terre, au Jardin de Francis”, which will follow that of “Une langue en plus”, broadcast on September 24 on France Télévisions.

Yelle’s “The Age of Aquarius”: it’s our album of the year

The best record of the year was born on a Breton farm. An imposing 17th century building which was that of a shipowner, owner of a three-master, “Le Saint-Michel” under Colbert, which over time has become a customs house, a residence occupied by the Germans, renovated , enhanced. This is where Yelle lives and works, namely Julie Budet and Jean-François Perrier, alias GrandMarnier, couple in the city and on the stage, hidden behind the acronym of You Enjoy Life. It is here also that they imagined “The Era of Aquarius”, 4th disc, formidable electro-pop success, carried out in the studio arranged upstairs. You don’t need much: a computer, keyboards, a battery, a microphone. Craftsman’s work, cut off from the world, at the tip of the bay of Saint-Brieuc.

“For a long time, it was the only house in the area. There is a 14m deep well in the garden where you can draw water which is very good. We rent the cottage next door to our best friend. We went into debt to buy this place, we were totally out of budget. But we work as we want, at our own pace, we are our own producers, our own managers. We have our roots here, our friends, our parents who live in the area. And since we move a lot abroad, it’s a base camp for us. “

The last album of Miossec “The survivors”: a bubbling serenity

The Breton singer returns with his eleventh studio album “Les Rescapés”, released on September 28th. If Christophe Miossec has always been a little apart in the French song, it seems with this opus have found a certain serenity, but always with an inner urgency that pushes him to write and compose, again and again. A music he describes himself as “organic”.

At 54, Christophe Miossec already has a good career and a dozen albums to his credit. A singular writing, a rather minimalist music, and methods of recording and production close to the craft. On the sidelines of the majors, he built himself an atypical career and was able to hook a public, since become faithful.
His last album “The survivors” (Columbia) released September 28, reflects both an assumed serenity and an internal revolt always present.

The first song opens with a statement of urgency: “we are the survivors, we are the survivors” sings Miossec. The text echoes the current issues, be it climate change or migrants.

But the singer also describes it as a very personal song. Because he considers himself a miracle worker who has been able to continue to work, despite a sinuous path, off the beaten path.

An album recorded in trio over three distinct periods

“The survivors” was built from May 2017 to April 2018, in three distinct periods.
Brest first with Mirabelle Gilis and Leander Lyons. Old-fashioned recording sessions with “pre-program” instruments: a piano, organ, mellotron, and an Elka branded Italian drum machine. Always this desire to remain “organic”, to propose a carnal music, with flower of skin.
Then second stage at Badabing studio by Julien Delfaud where the songs are recorded live, with Mirabelle Gilis again, but also Laurent Bardainne and Sylvain Daniel. The pieces take shape with the added bass more present.
Finally, the Garage studio for the mixing phase with Dominique Ledudal. Miossec adds all the guitar parts, which he plays himself.

The singer from Brest considers this album as his most personal music since “Drinking” in 1995. Witness this other shock song, “the sea”, which, again, refers to the dramas of migrants. The clip shows us the innocence of two kids on a rubber boat, but that seems lacerated by bites: “The sea, when it bites, it’s mean”.
This uncompromising and sharp writing sometimes gives way to more lightness (“The man”) and benevolence (“People”).
The music is also more catchy on “I became” and manages to stay groovy even on the darker themes (“We die”, “The infidels”).

With “70 years to the West ” Gilles Servat still sings the love of his Brittany

At 70, Gilles Servat continues to tour in all the corners of Brittany and publishes an album that is the name of this show: “70 years to the West !!!”. Chantre of his region, along with a few other artists, he has done much since the 1970s to give back to his culture of letters of nobility.

Gilles Servat was not born Breton. This is an assertion that is likely to surprise many, as its name invariably evokes the land of Armor and Arvor. Certainly, his maternal family is native to the Breton Breton Croisic city, but our bard was born far in the Hautes-Pyrenees! It is now fifty years that he walks his guitar and sings his repertory inspired by the breton tradition. Enormous star in his region, he published a public album reproducing the songs of his tour on all the scenes that counts Brittany.
